Chickens And The Such!

Wow been over 3 weeks since my last post! Sorry but we have been very busy here....we are house sitting for our "neighbor" and I can hardly believe this, but market start NEXT weekend! It's a long market....runs for 5 months. AND I was recently contacted by Sustainable Living Systems...they wanted 48 muffins made out of as many local products as possible....that was a challenge, but I am pretty proud of what I came up with....about 80% of each of the different types of muffins contained local ingredients. I made Lemon Raspberry, Apple Pumpkin and Cheddar Onion. We have a local dairy so I was able milk, cheese (onion cheddar parsley) and the butter. I replaced the sugar for the local honey (NOT on a 1 to 1 ratio), I used Montana Wheat Flour and Montola Veggie Oil (safflower)...all those items produced in MT...some not so locally. Then I was able to get raspberries and pumpkin/apple puree from a friend's freeze....OH yes and the EGGS! I used the eggs that I have been collecting from the place we are house sitting. So they have two of these crazy looking chickens...they recently acquired them from a rancher who let his chickens "free range"...well the rest of the flock was recently eaten by coyotes. So Clark and Julie "adopted" the remain two. They give the smaller white eggs as opposed to the larger brown eggs. We are getting about 5-6 eggs per day...sometimes more. But we are also taking care of their chicks.....when they are ready to lay, Julie said they would be getting about 20-30 eggs a day. So she said we were welcome to come and get them when that happens!

I try to post more tomorrow.....more pics too!

red6red

So, I'm just going to come right out and say this...I'm really...ok...exceptionally pleased with how this latest custom order turned out! So I thought I would share. I designed the label myself. Of course, the basic logo design was hers. The only thing that needs done is to shrink wrap them. These are going to a new boutique opening in Idaho....so hopefully she will be a repeat in the future! So if you need any little "favors" for anything...I can do your custom label for you!

Happy April Fool's Day!

So I/we have been soooo busy around here. Last week I baked 6 loaves of bread each day M-T-W....on Thursday, I was so excited to finally get to bake some bread for us...my favorite kind, sourdough. I cut a piece before I left for work...hot out of the oven! Well when John got home, there was no sourdough to be found...a certain dog helped herself to the entire rest of the loaf!

I just shipped out an order today for 100 custom lip butters with custom labels....have an order ready for tomorrow for 30 custom lip butters for a different order and I also got a reorder from the florist in Canada! Seems like everything hits at once!

If that wasn't enough...if you remember, a couple of weeks ago we went to a class in Missoula to become certified in Pet CPR. Well as it turns it is a small, small world....our instructor went to college at Lehigh University/College (not sure which is proper)in Bethlehem, PA. We were her last class she was teaching in Missoula...seems she is moving back to Connecticut. So...bright idea! John and I are now become certified INSTRUCTORS! We will be teaching the class! And I can't quite remember what she said, but I believe she was the only certified instructor in ...either all of Montana, or all of Western Montana....either way that's a pretty huge area! We are traveling to some training on Sunday from 11-3.

We had our meeting for the Farmer's Market last weekend...first market starts May 2nd...and I need to get cracking! I am wiped out of soap! Our last Market will be October 3. Long market...5 months long!

What We Did Yesterday.

John did not have to work yesterday, so we headed into Hamilton and took a walk along the river where we used to live. Daisy and John both crossed the pipe that is across the slue. Daisy crossed it like 3 times....by the third time across, she was getting pretty cocky and wasn't paying attention....so she ended up losing her footing and fell in. It wasn't a very far fall and she fell into the water, so she wasnt hurt. By the way....the vet's office we go to has a electronic walk-on scale right in the waiting room, so you can go in there any time to weigh your dogs....Since our visit about 6 weeks ago....Daisy has lost 4 pounds! Yeah!!

Along our walk we cross a small foot bridge....we all made it across...except.....(Video is side ways...sorry!)

She is such a big baby...she cries about everything...she cries to come in...she cries when Daisy has her bone....and you can hear her crying in the video too! Please note that the water you hear rushing in the background is not what is under the footbridge....it is the water that is rushing over the small rocky "dam" in the river to the left.

Just planning on finishing up making stuff for the fundraiser, cleaning, maybe groceries and a walk for the dogs. But what I really feel like doing is what Stella is doing....take a nap!! We don't know yet if John is working today, I guess we'll just wing it for today. Nothing too much else going on. Oh...if by any chance you get a pop up saying your computer is infected with spyware, don't "X" it out! Using ALT F4 will get rid of the pop up. If you "X" it out, you will become infected with the Antivirus 360 worm. Not to be confused with Norton 360. Even though I had virus protection....by xing it out, I gave it "permission" to access my computer. It is extremely hard to get rid of...even Norton Software can't get rid of it. It is apparently running rampant right now....so be careful. It can ultimately crash your computer and cause you to lose valuable documents.

PS....the answers for the St Patty's Day Quiz are in the comments.
